About Wesley B Zwiefel
About The Provider
Wes Zwiefel, PA-C, is a board-certified physician assistant with more than 20 years of experience in cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular medicine, cardiothoracic surgery and patient care. He manages patients with heart rhythm disorders in the outpatient and inpatient setting. Zwiefel is skilled in treating heart rhythm abnormalities and cardiac devices.
Zwiefel earned a Master of Science in physician assistant studies from Philadelphia University in Philadelphia, where he researched device efficacy in preventing sudden cardiac death in women with heart failure. He holds a Master of Arts in exercise science and a Bachelor of Arts in health promotion, both from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His academic work includes research on abdominal muscle activation and hands-on experience in cardiac rehabilitation.
His physician assistant training included rotations in family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology, general surgery, women’s health, pediatrics and cardiac surgery, which provided him with a broad background to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care to patients of all ages.
Before becoming a physician assistant, Zwiefel worked as a cardiac rehabilitation department manager and exercise physiologist, where he helped patients recover and regain strength after cardiac surgery, stenting and heart attack. He has taught wellness courses and designed strength and conditioning programs for collegiate athletes.
Zwiefel is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants. He holds certifications in advanced cardiac life support and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Zwiefel is committed to evidence-based medicine, patient education and collaborative care, and strives to ensure every patient feels informed, supported and empowered throughout their treatment.
