Rece Portell, PA-C, is a compassionate and knowledgeable physician assistant specializing in general cardiology. She holds a master of science in physician assistant studies from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, where she excelled in a variety of clinical rotations, including family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, women’s health, pediatrics and cardiology.

Her clinical training provided hands-on experience in both outpatient and hospital settings. Portell has assisted in advanced cardiac procedures, interpreted diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms and echocardiograms, and participated in the care of patients with heart failure, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and other chronic conditions. Her background also includes experience in emergency medicine, where she managed acute cardiac events and collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, effective care.

She believes every patient deserves to feel heard, respected and empowered in their health care journey. Portell prioritizes building strong, trusting relationships with her patients, taking the time to listen to their concerns, answer questions and involve them in decision-making. Her goal is to not only treat medical conditions but also to improve her patients’ overall quality of life. Outside of her professional life, Portell is actively involved in her community, having participated in fundraising events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and supporting local businesses and events. She values family deeply and enjoys spending time with loved ones, staying active and participating in seasonal activities.
